New Install - Pedals move but bike won't travel
Posted by: viewfromspace - 08-26-2019, 08:51 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (25)

I just installed my sensors and software today for VIRZoom on Oculus QUEST.

I successfully installed my sensor and button kit, paired to my Oculus headset and app, etc. I installed the apps and got them launched. I did the 90 degree rotation thing on my crank sensor - the light on it blinks blue as it should according to the documentation provided with the kit - so it appears to be recognized..

When I go into VzExplorer, I select a suggested ride... I pick Sedona, AZ and I get a very nice display of a AZ highway in my headset. Problem - no matter how hard I pedal, my "virtual bike" will not move forward one bit. I know my sensor works because my "virtual bike" shows my crankset rotating in proportion to the speed of my pedalling on my actual stationary bike.... When I activate a  "virtual trainer/riding coach" on this ride, the trainer is visible and moves forward and tells me to "pick it up" as they pedal ahead leaving me standing stationary at the start of the ride.. I pedal hard and move try to catch up to trainer - my "virtual bike" remains at the starting position for my selected ride, while the trainer proceeds along the route.

What do I need to do to get my "virtual bike" moving when I pedal?

I see no menu options to formally "start" the selected ride and let me pedal forward in the headset scene. I seem to have a virtual bike with no drive chain!!

Thanks

OMG - I've been talking about this for years.  I play "World of Tanks" and I kept suggesting they hook it up to an exercise bike for a couple of years.  With the sensor and virtual reality you guys came up with a better solution.  (Cheaper to deploy).

Now phase II

I really believe this could become the replacement to football.  I would have 5 different tank types like WOT then you could have a great team game with different roles and a coach.  It would still provide physical fitness and the excitement of football plus be able to watch games and compete against any school in the country without the wasted travel time or injuries.

You need to pick a school in LA and one in NYC and create two high school teams to compete against each other on line.  Get this competition some media coverage and I think you would have schools lining up to get involved with this.  I don't know what number of players per team 5 v 5, 10 v 10, 15 v 15, ? v ?.  This might have to be experimented with.

You are going to have to work on graphics and some of the physics of the game but I think this is a great start.

  Question about billing
Posted by: GregK954 - 08-22-2019, 10:43 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Does your company have a way to pay with a PayPal account?  I feel a bit concerned  about having to submit my credit card number to a server that does not appear to be PCI compliant.  Not saying the back-end is not compliant, as I can not tell, however the certificate that secures your site is by 'Let's Encrypt'.

Don't get me wrong 'Let's Encrypt' is great, it will make sure that end to end the data is secured, but any company can encrypt a site with it unverified. There is no vetting involved. If your company is not vetted by an accredited SSL provider, then what can I think your policy is with my credit card number?  I was already forced to give you that info to use your product and start the free trial, I felt uneasy about that.

I like your product and wish to upgrade to premium but I would like to know exactly how or if my number was stored. Is the server where my bank/credit information resting PCI compliant?

Thanks
-G

  Discord Interest
Posted by: Snowpelt - 08-16-2019, 05:51 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Hey Everyone,

As mentioned in another thread we are currently debating setting up an official discord server.  For those of you unfamiliar with discord it is a app that allows for text and audio chat and community growth.  Originally focused on gaming it has grown to be more of an 'interest' based discussion platform over time with communities for everything from movie buffs to crossfit gyms.  The ways I can see this being helpful is growing community interactions and easily allowing people to coordinate Multiplayer matches. Tossing a pole below to see how much interest there is for so we can prioritize this.

Ensuring created rides don't have breaks
Posted by: emalafeew - 08-14-2019, 11:36 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

There are two ways you can create rides:

a) by entering start and end addresses, and letting Google calculate the shortest path

b) entering start address only, and riding until you get to the end you want, then bringing up the pause menu to "End Ride"

The (a) approach can sometimes run into the problem that the Streetview car didn't ride along every point of that Google path.  Fortunately there's a way to verify that it does on maps.google.com before you create the ride.

1. Open maps.google.com in your web browser
2. Enter your end address, and hit Directions button
3. Enter your start address in first field, and you should see the shortest Google path in blue
4. Click on little yellow person icon in bottom right of screen to show Streetview coverage, as a blue outline
5. See that your path has complete coverage from start to end

When you zoom into your path you'll notice you no longer see Streetview coverage closeup, even when the yellow person icon is enabled.  Sometimes you’ll only see the break in coverage at this magnification.  To see it, you'll need to temporarily turn off the yellow person icon, and click on the map to create a temporary gray pin.  Click the lat,lon in the pin icon, and you'll see your path turn gray instead of blue.  When you click on the yellow person icon now, you'll see the Streetview coverage as a thin blue line inside your gray path.

The (b) approach can avoid this problem, but requires you to ride all the way to your endpoint and perfectly execute the directions you want to take.  When you get to a break in the white dots, just end your ride there, we don't have a way to go where there's no Streetview coverage.

Being able to create rides on vzfit.com is on our backlog, and we should be able to check there for any breaks by auto-riding the path.

Lightbulb Explorer- How do you search?
Posted by: Snowpelt - 08-13-2019, 05:15 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Hey Everyone,

Wondering how everyone is using the explorer to search.   Is speech recognition working often enough that it's your primary search method?  If you have any tips and tricks to make searching for fun places to ride easier share them with everyone.

My hot tip for the day is that for US destinations you can avoid typing City and State if you just supply a zipcode and it works the majority of the time!

I purchased a VirZoom sensor a while back directly from virzoom. I haven’t used it in many months but I was inspired when I received a bunch of challenges last week from a fellow user. I clicked on “see challenges” from within his email and tried to sign into my account but my username and email were not found. I was even allowed to register using that same email address but none of my information has been saved. Even when I sign on to the game on my Oculus Go, it has restarted as if I’m a new player. I’m still able to play, but I can’t update the app. Is there anything I can do?
