  VZfit thumb controller
Posted by: Davesvzfit - 12-13-2019, 05:47 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

what are the controls for?  I have the app loaded, I can see some choices for road trips. I can move my head and get the dot on one of the trips.  The Oculust controler no longer works. Pressed A and nothing. Pressed B and nothing. Handle bars move and I see the road.  I re-acyivated the thumb controler and no change.  I must not understand how to select a trop or program.

I did as suggested and searched the net.  Found a lot on how to attach but nothing about what the controls do.

  Custom ride creation on vzfit.com

We love all the shared rides for Explorer people have been making, and have been saying for a while we want to empower you to do more.

We've finally started this work, and are testing an ability to upload KML files you can export from any route made in Google My Maps.

This will allow rides not just between the shortest path between two points, or that you had to manually ride knowing the way, which are the two current abilities you have in game. You can also custom name your rides, rather than automatically using their reported region.

And it will allow us to repost our Boston Marathon route, which we livestreamed back in April but we had to pull because it's method of showing the route was too brittle and impractical to record.  We could follow up then by posting Paul Revere's Midnight Ride Smile

We'd like to release this ability without much adornment soon, and would then love to hear all the ride customization ideas you have!  For instance adding informative signage and personal narration, or stringing multiple rides together like a mix tape.

Bug Explorer distance bug on open-ended rides
Posted by: surfous - 11-27-2019, 10:48 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

If I create a ride with a starting point, but no ending point, I've noticed that my distance goes up more quickly that it should. If I end a ride and save it, the ride will have the actual distance. What seems to be happening is that the trip odometer in open ended might be measuring in kilometers rather than miles.

I did a ride from my hometown to a neighboring town which is a 7 mile (11.2 km) ride, and my distance in miles was closer to 11.2 when I'd gotten there.
Another ride I did read about 39 miles while making it, but when I'd saved it, it was 24 miles and change. 24.2 mi (39km) is the actual distance between the start and end points of that ride..

I know there may be other reasons for the discrepancy, but it seems coincidentally close enough to the distance in kilometers that the distance being displayed in the wrong scale is a plausible explanation.

What happened to the Panda/Kayak game?
Posted by: PWSCITServices - 11-21-2019, 06:53 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Hello all!

We are very excited to install two VirZoom bike setups in our university fitness center.  I tested a similar setup a few months ago that was loaded at a sister university fitness center, and their VzFit game had a panda/kayak game instead of the racecar/dog game.  Is the panda only available on the Go version?  We sure would like to have it on the Quest!  It was the best game for beginners who wanted a less stressful, intense game.

  Distortion improvement progress
Posted by: emalafeew - 11-14-2019, 08:56 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

Thought we'd share some work-in-progress of distortion improvements for Explorer.

First we acknowledged there are lots of kinds of distortion, such as

"Elevations seem incorrect (white dots don't match road mesh at given location)"
"Dots turn before road"
"Road sidewall not modeled in depth map"
"Dots don't follow almost perfectly straight road. Also occasional misaligned horizon"
"Depth map artefacts (like riding into a wall projected onto it)"
"Well, there are endless depth map issues, some of which we could improve on but many that would still look bad since the photos contain pedestrians and cars that can't be captured in the depth map."
"It bothers me when dots are not following a smooth line and it feels much better when transitions are aligned."

Some of these we were able to improve in our latest release, such as elevations and dots persistently going off-road, by smarter analysis and application of redundant data.

We also experimented with better alignment between photo transitions.  This showed promise, but we found a bigger idea that can fix more problems.

The idea is to change the way we render our scenes into something like Pokemon Go in reverse.  It will make terrain geometry appear solid between transitions, and be able to incorporate data from multiple image perspectives to avoid the "stretchy" distortion in between images.  Here are a few screenshots, with the meshes intentionally highlighted and skymap disabled.

Here's a halfway done video, with solid geometry but still simple image transitions, that shows the benefit on buildings which normally have a bunch of depth errors.

Note it can't fix the distortion of cars or people or stray trees, which we intentionally captured in this video to show the worst case.  But does make it seem more like you're riding through a solid world, especially in VR with stereoscopic depth.

Hi,

I always have people asking me whether the VZfit can work with other VR headset brands.

I understand the Oculus brand gives the best experience ect but just wondered is it possible to work with other VR brands.

I'm not a technical person so i just wanna clarify what the possibilities are and also with the SDK is that only for developing apps to work with the Oculus brand or can it make the vz sensor able to work with other VR headsets.

I appreciate the feedback

Cheers

Liam

  Explorer Issues
Posted by: rod1492 - 10-22-2019, 03:01 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi All,

I recently purchased the VIRzoom kit primarily to use the Explorer. Being able to bike through interesting places seemed a sure way to motivate me on my cycling workouts. However I have a pretty poor internet connection (generally 3-6 Mbps) due to my rural location, and I believe it’s causing all kinds of display problems when bicycling in Explorer. I seem to be able to generally stream Netflix at HD resolution regularly, but get constant artifacts/blue screen/navigation issues in Explorer. Is there any way possible to totally cache a particular route ahead of time, so that I could enjoy the scenery on my rides? If not, are there any suggestions that would enable me to optimize Explorer so that it becomes more useable?  Thanks!

Game breaking bug on some explorer rides
Posted by: surfous - 10-16-2019, 04:18 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (25)

I’ve found a game-breaking bug where I’m unable to complete some rides that I’ve previously been able to complete. The problem presents the same in each case: I see the next white dot or two some distance ahead of me, farther away than normal, but the landscape stops moving and I’m unable to reach it. Exiting and resuming the ride results in the same situation. The problem remains if I try to resume the ride days later.

These are the affected rides I’ve found and the point at which I cannot continue to the next white dot:

⁃ surfous’s San Simeon ride: forward, 23%, 22.7 miles (suggested)
⁃ surfous’s Truckee ride: forward, 66%, 6.7 miles (shared)
⁃ Old military road: reverse, 18%, 17.4 miles (suggested)

I don’t know what the root cause might be, but I’m hoping that there’s an overall fix that can marker these rides work again and prevent this problem in future rides.
