I found out that there is a way to have the trainer in comfort mode. See video in attached link. You have to start comfort mode and then go back to the menu and select options and then click on the trainer and then go back to your ride and the trainer will be there. Looks like poor coding!  But we only half-heartedly disabled the Trainer for comfort mode.  I'm inclined to just allow it for next build, and then try to solve the problems it has in the future.
