We've made enough optimizations in Go & Play to support boat opponents again in River Run. Many players of the original game had requested it.
Boats appear in higher levels and must be hit three times to sink. They move back and forth and have turrets that shoot at you, though their ammo only travels a short distance so you're safe far away. You can also shoot their turrets separately from the hull!

At what level do the boats show up? Played a 20 minute game and got to level 11 and no boats yet. Can you have them show up a earlier?

Got to level 15 and no boats, that is unless they are ghost ships.

A crucial change didn't get checked in after testing. I'm rebuilding today to include that.
You'll start seeing them after level 3.

Fixing and updating builds. Those were explosions from the boats flak guns, which have a limited range unlike the turret missiles.
