Hey there,
Depending on what you mean by custom route there are several options.
The first and easiest option is to just put in a starting and ending location and click Go.
The second option is to put in a start location and skip and end location and free roam.
The final option is to create a map using google my maps and google streetview and upload it on your profile page. You can find all of the instructions for this on your profile page by clicking the button that says "upload route"
